Kokernag

About Kokernag

Kokernag is a scenic hill station located in the Anantnag district of Kashmir, renowned for its pristine natural spring that is the largest in Kashmir. The spring discharges millions of gallons of crystal-clear water daily, forming the source of the Veshaw River, a major tributary of the Jhelum. Set amidst lush gardens developed during the Mughal era and expanded by the British, Kokernag offers a serene retreat with terraced lawns, colorful flower beds, and towering chinar trees.

The name "Kokernag" is derived from "Koker," meaning hen, and "Nag," meaning spring, referring to the spring's sound resembling a hen's clucking. The garden, spread over 4 hectares, features a unique water channel system that distributes the spring water throughout the terraced levels. With its trout-rich streams, botanical garden, and cool climate even in summer, Kokernag serves as a perfect picnic spot and nature retreat for families and nature enthusiasts.
