Hari Parbat Fort

About Hari Parbat Fort

Hari Parbat Fort, also known as Koh-e-Maran, is a historic fortification built on Sharika Hill in Srinagar. The fort was constructed in the 18th century by Afghan Governor Ata Mohammad Khan, though the hill itself holds religious significance dating back to ancient times. The name "Hari Parbat" comes from the presence of a shrine dedicated to Goddess Sharika at the hilltop.

The fort walls were originally built by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1590 AD, with the current fort structure completed much later. The fortification stretches over the hill with massive ramparts visible from across Srinagar city. Within the fort complex, there are several important religious sites including the Sharika Devi Temple, Makhdoom Sahib Shrine, and Akhund Mullah Shah Mosque, making it a symbol of Kashmir's composite culture and religious harmony.
