Gurez Valley

About Gurez Valley

Gurez Valley is one of the most remote and pristine valleys in Kashmir, located at an altitude of 8,000 feet along the Line of Control. This hidden gem, cradled between the mighty Himalayas and cut off from the rest of Kashmir for most of winter, offers an authentic glimpse into traditional tribal life and untouched natural beauty. The valley follows the Kishanganga River (known as Neelum River in Pakistan), with snow-capped peaks towering on both sides.

Home to the Dard-Shin tribe, descendants of ancient Aryan settlers, Gurez Valley preserves unique cultural traditions, language, and lifestyle. The valley features scattered wooden villages, terraced fields, high-altitude meadows, and the iconic pyramid-shaped Habba Khatoon peak. With its dramatic landscapes, crystal-clear rivers, dense forests, and traditional hospitality, Gurez remains relatively unexplored, offering adventurous travelers an off-the-beaten-path experience in Kashmir's most remote corner.
