Achabal Gardens
About Achabal Gardens
Achabal Gardens, also known as Achabal Bagh, is a stunning Mughal garden located in the Anantnag district of Kashmir. Built in 1620 AD by Empress Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, this garden is renowned for its natural springs that cascade down in beautiful waterfalls and fountains. The name "Achabal" is derived from "Achha-Baal" meaning "good water" in reference to its abundant natural springs.
The garden exemplifies the Mughal tradition of creating paradise on earth through the harmonious integration of water, architecture, and landscaping. The crystal-clear spring water flows through the garden in multiple channels, creating a symphony of sounds and a refreshing atmosphere. The garden features three terraces adorned with Chinar and cypress trees, vibrant flowerbeds, and traditional Persian-style pavilions. It served as a royal retreat and continues to enchant visitors with its serene beauty and natural splendor.
